OK....

so i am trying to set up the feature on my computer that allows me to access windows media center through my xbox.
So far i have followed all the steps. but when i get to the part where it tries to locate the extender it can't find it.
I have looked through all the help sites and everything, and i have even tried disabling my firewall(norton 360).
NOT ONLY THAT,
but i have made sure that my firewall is set up to allow UpNP....
i don't know if anyone uses this but if you can help it would be awesome

I don't suppose the built in windows firewall is enabled still?  If it is you should have a lock on the network connection icon.  you can also check it in the control panel.

also, is this thread of any helpl to you?
