In case both of you are misunderstanding:

Lifetime contract for a Tivo Box means: You don't pay the monthly price. In the beginning TiVo sold the Series 1 and Series 2 boxes with this option to allow you to pay a large sum up front and avoid monthly charges. I have a couple TiVo boxes with lifetime on them, however one is dying and my attempts to save it haven't worked so far. (It works but after it downloads new guides it "Green Screens of Death")

Now, I am guessing you don't have this on your account for this box, but it kinda an important detail to know before a sale.....

...or you could get proper cable (AT&T U-Verse) and use their dvr.  BRILLIANT!!!

Having used a Cable Box's DVR and TiVo, I can vouch for TiVo being quite awesome. There certainly isn't anything wrong with a DVR, but our HD TiVo has had some nifty features, like networking to a computer to save shows on a backup HD, Netflix (though the Xbox 360 version is so much better), and general ease of use.

However, AT&T Uverse is a pretty sweet deal in itself, especially for multiple televisons.

The U-Verse dvr is BOSS!

I know about the lifetime sub, it costs a ton, and could bring a bit more on ebay than 25 bones. Just sayin', i would be a dummy to let one go..

Tivo > than your cable dvr. But, they cost expensive and require crappy cable cards that dont half work.

Name one thing you can do with a TV, that I would actually want or need to do, that I can't do with my U-Verse dvr.

Sorry I don't have cool things like you, Varg.  Cool things like a sister-in-law who walks around slapping strangers with a 10" rubber cock.  Sorry.  I'll go back to Stupidville now.
