According to what I saw all the toons are motion caputerd... vehicles are not published yet but they are rumored to be in place

Not the toons, the people talking about the game.  They seemed too well spoken and dramatic to be developers

You know the more I read about this the more I think Eve on the ground.  Not that that's so much a bad thing, but I haven't really seen anything that suggests fps.  I haven't dug too deep either.

Hey guys.  I had a chance to play the beta today at the Philly GameExpo and I have to sya it was pretty cool.  At first it kind of reminded me of TF2 in respect to the classes you choose from and what they do, but the game play is much better, graphics are rockin', and I enjoyed it a bit more than TF2.  What we weren't able to see was the campagin areas.  For the subscription people, you have access to an auction house, crafting, and missions.  People that don't pay the monthly sub can still be part of the Agency (guild for you WoW guys), but won't have access to the sub stuff like crafting, auction house, etc.  So that seems to be pretty cool, but i'd like to see it in action to see how quickly it becomes stale.

Hopefully, one of us will get in to the beta and be able to share their experiences.

Just got an email:

GLOBAL AGENDA TO LAUNCH ON FEB 1, 2010

http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvUG~wreDv8SYED9GtIe~yL~Jvsq~~X~mie0Jzr~&2=1670

ATLANTA, Dec. 15, 2009 -- Hi-Rez Studios announced today that Global Agenda, the award winning team-based shooter-MMO, will launch on Monday, February 1, 2010. The game will be available for pre-purchase through the Global Agenda website, Steam and the Amazon.com Marketplace starting today. Players that pre-purchase will receive beta access, in-game items, and other incentives.

Global Agenda players will experience both co-op and competitive multiplayer shooter features after a one-time purchase with no subscription needed. An optional subscription package, called "Global Agenda: Conquest" will be available for players who wish to participate in a massive-scale game of territory control on a persistent world map.

As a special agent playing only the non-subscription features, you may fully level up to eight different agent characters, participating in both player-vs-player and cooperative player-vs-environment missions, as you fight to overturn the totalitarian one-world government, The Commonwealth, and establish yourself inside the game world.

Players in Global Agenda: Conquest form their own groups, called Agencies. These Agencies conquer territory, construct facilities, manufacture vehicles, raid bases, and engage in formal and informal alliances and betrayals on their way toward world domination. The Conquest gameplay will revolve around player-driven politics and emergent gameplay with each battle being resolved via squad-based combat.

A comparison of the features included in the non-subscription and subscription ("Conquest") portions of the game, as well as additional pre-order information, is available on the Global Agenda website.

I've been in the closed beta for the past couple months.  For me the jury is still out.  While I've been in it, we have not tested the large scale combat, only the smaller modes that are roughly 8v8.  The Alliance systems were not in place yet (i.e. crafting, auction house, etc).  You could visit the "booths" but not craft, sell, or buy.  Specializations were like many other games.. medic, hunter, engineer, etc. and you earn higher levels or armor, weapons, etc.  We just received the email yesterday about launch and pre-orders.

I think it will be worth checking out and seeing how the larger scale combat works in conjunction with everything else.  Players can have just the game itself without the monthly conquest mode and still be part of the Alliance, but not participate in any of the conquests.

It seems a little bit like Tribes meets Unreal meets TF2.  I don't think it will be a huge hit like Planetside was, but like I said, until we beta test conqest mode I can't really compare it in that way.

OK gang.  I received my email earlier breaking out the beta offers as well as breakdown info.  You've probably already read this somewhere, but here is a screenshot showing you regular gameplay vs subscription gameplay.  Now, I have the option to purchase 4 steam keys total.  I can gift 3 of them.  The price of the 4 pack is $134.99 or $33.75 per key.  Here's what you get:

Quote
PRE-ORDER FOR EXCLUSIVE BENEFITS
Your pre-purchase includes the following special benefits:
•   Confirmed Access to Beta – Your purchase confirms your access to Global Agenda beta events in January. Note that the beta servers are available for play only during specific play test windows, and that tests may be limited to only certain game features.
•   In-Game Items – Activate their Product Key on the Global Agenda website prior to February 1, 2010 to receive a special in-game helmet captured from the Commonwealth, as well as head flair honoring the Global Agenda "No Elves" marketing campaign.
•   Reserve Your Player Name and Agency Name - Watch your email for details on how to access the pre-launch “Name Reserve” event, where you can reserve your in-game name ahead of launch day (exact dates for the Name Reserve event to be announced). You will also be able to reserve an Agency name during the game's official launch.
In addition, your purchase gives you the ability to sign up for one free month of Global Agenda: Conquest at registration (credit card required, can be canceled at any time).
When Global Agenda launches, the Global Agenda Live game will activate in Steam. At this point, you will need to install and activate your live activation key on the Global Agenda website. It is necessary to register your live activation key to play the game post launch and to continue participation in the beta in late January.

If you are interested, please let me know and I will send you the list of beta times during January.

Is this a true FPS or is it in third person? Or a mix? The videos I have seen confuse me. If it is FPS, is it responsive and exacy like Modern Warefare or does it feel more like TF2 or Unreal? What function does the Guild/Outfit play? Is it just a friends list or is there benifits like with what Warhammer had?

Don't know since I haven't played MW2, but I have played Unreal and I would say it has an Unreal feeling to it.

Stu and Arctic, we'll probably make arrangements for the cash via PayPal or something.

One thing I see backfiring on their approach with this is that the "mass scale campaigns" are going to be partitioned only to the people with the full accounts.

Now logically when trying to generate some filled up mass scale battles, you would want to access the bigger pool of players, which would be the total sum of sub and one time payers.

It seems likes the best thing to do would be to open up the mass scale for everyone, and give the sub players access to elite command missions with 10-15 vs 10-15 players, which would determine the most critical outcomes of the agency on agency actions; best tech or total loss of agency here? Or maybe allow them to backdoor another agency to steal or recover some stolen tech

That way the smaller agencies will be able to at least resist the bigger ones on some level. Otherwise I just get the sense it's going to be nothing but a few marauding agencies running around monopolizing smaller and medium size agencies.

Meanwhile you have players just staying in the one time purchase area, because they are sick of getting owned 60 on 20, and its much more easier to fill up an 8v8, as well as not being one sided.

Is this Sony made this, or people from Sony move over I thought? I only wonder if they ever think about this shit sometimes.

There will probably be outcry on the forums to open up the mass maps to everyone, and they'll do it, but not before they've lost a big player base.

Just sayin'

Night, I would bet that the majority of people that buy this game will pay the fee, if they like it, for the extra content. If one wanted to play 8v8 with a non recurring monthly fee: COD, HL deathmatch and its bazillion mods, tf2, unreal3 etc etc etc..

This is not a huge release as far as I can tell, as in publisher size and media advertisement. I would think that the people that will go buy the box are the same people that have been following it and want the MMO aspect of it. Otherwise what are you really getting other than a glorified trial version (which I bet is the intent of the publisher)

I'm not saying that I know for a fact it will succeed, most mmo releases now a days don't just due to the volume of releases out there, but  I do know people are accustomed to paying monthly fees for an MMO they like, and a small publisher like this going out and taking a stab at releasing something new and innovative deserves and will probably NEED the subs.

Well it's not only that, but the non subs also get access to the instances and other treats etc.

And sure the majority of players will be sub at first, but that will drop off.

Looking at the two options, i'd imagine alot of people would be content with the single purchase. You're going to get your COD, HL, unreal etc players because they want to try something fresh. And of course some new types thinking it as a WoW with machine guns or what not with the instances and such.

If you're going to market it as an MMO-whatever, you need to give all players access to the mmo aspect, because Its not an issue about giving the one time payers too much access, its about the sub payers not getting the most out of their subs, because they don't get access to the total sum of potential players to fill up their agencies.

If your agency can only fill out 8-10 people on at a time, you're going to find yourself only wanting to play the 8v8s or instances, which is the free content and therefore why pay the sub because what 8-10 agency is going to want to get their asses owned by a roving 60 size agency?

Just to update. I've been playing this game almost daily since its live launch. The game feels grindy but what modern MMO doesn't? If you guys want to try it out for a bit you can download a free trial via Steam. The trial can only go up to level 15 (level cap is 50) and can't do the Conquest (AvA) gameplay. Nevertheless, it gives you a pretty good idea of what the game is all about. Extremely team based (no lone snipers owning everyone), fast paced, and fun.

The main reason that I'm posting this update is that HiRez is going to be releasing patch 1.3 - Sandstorm sometime in mid-late May. The Sandstorm patch is going to add bigger matches (up to 40v40), raid style PvE action, and a bunch of stuff that matters to people that already play the game. I.E. crafting system changes, loot drops, and balancing issues.

I had some pretty sweet screen shots of some PvP and PvE matches but, I can't find them in the file location of Global Agenda. If anyone has any idea of how to find the exact location for the screen shot files on a Steam game that would be awesome.

Title: Re: Global Agenda
Post by: RedDawn on April 27, 2010, 02:21:17 PM
screen shots usually are at C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<your username>\game somewhere in there. I'll grab the trail and see whats up

Title: Re: Global Agenda
Post by: Stugots on April 27, 2010, 11:55:24 PM
I got the trial and played it very little.  My only gripe is that there is no solo play.  So, me as a noob got in a group and was being yelled at for not doing something right, with no experience in the game at all.

Thats about all bad I can say about it soar.  I liked what I played in the first noob area (you vs bots) but the forced teaming (without having any friends online) would probably suck for me.  Mostly because I'm an insufferable asshole that cant stand teaming with people I don't know.

If it had solo play, I would defenitly be playing it.  Of course, if Planetside had solo play I probably never would have quit.

I am downloading the demo as well. It is weird the game website calls it a trial, so I made my account. Then click to download and it goes to steam, and steam has a Demo. The install guide says click demo on steam, so trial = demo in this case... weird.

Also says the demo is unlimited just level capped at 15.
