Title: New Duty Position
Post by: Volk on October 21, 2009, 02:37:15 AM
So, I'm officially part of my new unit now, and it's still being built up. I mean, my platoon ara just got tables today. My 1SG (First Sergeant) tells me I'm going to be a Team Sergeant, but I have no team yet. I'm supposed to be in charge of 5 other soldiers when they actually get here, which is unknown at this time. Now, I find out today, each squad is supposed to have an M249 gunner, and being the ONLY member of my team, that becomes be. Mind you I've never actually shot an M249 before, but they didn't care to ask that. I'm not a bad firer with other weapons (40/40 M16, 17/30 M9), but this is a whole different beast. Apparently there is a qual range in 2 weeks.

aim, squeeze, strafe, rinse, repeat, go home with a smile.

maybe not 100% accurate, but it sounds good
and i have a bud who's job was the M249 and  he can't shoot anything thats singleshot worth a shit so i'm sure you'll be ok

The M249 saw (Squad Automatic Weapon) is a sissy pistol. Below you will find a real mans machine gun.

The M240. Personally I prefer the model I had on my tank but still, the infantry version is l33t also

We don't have the M240. I'm once again part of a MI Company, but this instead of being MI all the way up through Battalion, Brigade, and MACOM, I go through STB (Special Troops Battalion), then through an Infantry Brigade in an Armor Division.

Don't fret Volk, the saw is a nice weapon, and easy to use. I was a saw gunner for a while in my unit.

Weird Not MI all the way up. I did some missions in Bagdad with MI guys. I could have sworn they had a 240 mounted on the hmmwv.

Just got told today by my platoon sergeant that I'll be a squad leader instead of a team sergeant when my soldiers show up.

Good times. I was a squad leader back in my day.

Yes, this is a good thing. It gived me more responsibilty, and looks better on my NCOER (Non-Commissioned Officer Evaluation Report). The thing here, though, is that I would no longer be the M249 gunner, since Squad leaders can't be the heavy gunner.

Well, my platoon is getting the .50 cal, but I won't be the gunner for it.

On other news, I am no longer a squadless leader. I got my first Soldier here today, and she's straight out of AIT, and 6 years older than me.

Pics for what, .50 cal, or the Soldier? As for the Soldier, she is no longer in my squad since when we deploy, my squad will be the forward team past the wire with the infantry guys, who don't have any females, or any tents for females to sleep in, so she got traded out of my squad for a male Soldier that wants to do all that forward deployed stuff.
