also velociraptors are fast and expensive, but if you are going to raid, 2 7200 rpm drives would be plenty fast

The duty cycle that Intel rates their stuff at is under pretty intensive writes.  They estimate at 5 years, but it's probably more like 8.  Regardless, I still think it's a bit too early to jump in to SSD right now unless you like bleeding edge technology and have cashola to burn.
