Occationally they throw in a pop up. then it turns my sound off. all i have to do is turn it up again. but kinda sux, I have AVG, and it saids im STD free, reloaded my sound drivers (only use the motherboard sound, nothing fancey). Any suggestions or have any of you ran across this.
Thanks

trusted porn sites? gotcha. download http://malwarebytes.org/ and then boot into safe mode with networking. Run it and see if it cleans it.

My experience with shit like this is that you can spend hours and hours digging out little bits of malware, but until you wipe and do a clean install, you'll never get it back to 100%.

What JT said, do a wipe and call it good.

Have you simply tried rolling back to an earlier restore point? I had adware once, and that resolved the issue.
Just make sure to update your registries if you do that.

Restore points actually get corrupted with the virus a LOT of the time so you can't get rid of it that way. Not always mind you, but enough times that it's useless to try.

I've found if the malware is caught early enough restore points can help in a lot of cases. I'd at least try it before doing a complete wipe, might as well give it a shot.

Useless was probably a bit much, but I wouldn't put a lot of faith in it.

If you absolutely don't want to wipe it clean, pull the drive out, pop it in a dock like the Thermaltake BlackX and scan it from there. The positive is that you will not be competing with any virus processes that start up at boot. With the drive inthe dock you can be pretty sure that you've gottne just about everything off. There may be some trace elements left behind, but nothing that will re-infect the machine once you put it back in.

Microsofts Security Essentials is great. Easy first step.
ALSO, get "hijackthis" , its probably a bunch of BHOs. If you are unsure how to read the output, save the log and post it here.

Sounds like what I do with my personal belongings. Every 2-3 years I burn down my place of residence, file a massive insurance claim, and buy new stuff. It keeps me interested in my toys.
