Dunno if some of you haven't heard, but those storing important files on your computer are stupid if you don't back it up. Dropbox does it all for you automatically (backed up to their servers), and can sync files between multiple computers, even between multiple users. You can access it from the online interface if you're at a different computer (such as at a computer lab to print shit).

Its totally free, you get 2GB, with the ability to get an extra 250MB for each friend you refer, up to 10GB total. They also have paid versions, 50GB for $10/mo, and 100GB for 20/mo, but the free is totally worth it

For those conspiracy theorists among us, they use SSL to transmit the files, and they use AES-256 to encrypt the files in their system. If you're really worried the feds will find your child porn next to your illegal copy of CS5, you can use Truecrypt or EncFS to help you sleep at night, Nancy.

I'm surprised no one else has made a topic on it before. Does anyone else here use it?

I use Mozy for here at work. I like it a lot. I used to use dropbox to download torrents when I am at work.

I use dropbox as well, but more for moving files around.  I back up everything on an external HDD

Yeah I use it as an easy way to move files between work, my laptop, and my desktop computers.  I love the public feature too to share larger files that would otherwise be difficult to send/upload anywhere else. 

It is completely free but I almost want to upgrade to get more space just to help support that company.

I use it for getting to shit on my iphone from wherevs.  It's easier than e-mailing it to myself and trying to find it later.

Yeah, heh... that's definitely going to hold the Fed back. If the Fed want's something they'll get it.


It's best to use an external harddrive. You can keep it right next to you and smash it in an emergency if need be.

Not that I would be harboring content on an external drive which would need to be smashed in such a scenario
