Before the tape entirely goes bad.  Surprised how bad they can get in 10 or 15 ....or20 years.

I ran a small VHS-DVD service a few years back, $5 a tape. After a few customers I started asking up front how old the tapes were, I refused to do anything older than 15yrs, they tend to look like shit, even if they've only been run 2-3 times

I finally updated my computer. However I had to keep things in a budget.

My old computer:

New Computer:

CPU: AMD 970 3.5 Ghz Quad Core (Stock with room to OC if I want)

MB: ASUS M4A87TD/USB3+SATA3
RAM: DDR3 2GB x 2 (4GB) running at 1600 overclock
HD:  2 SATA3 500GB drives running in Raid 0
OS : Windows 7 64-bit

Total cost to upgrade $405 including tax and shipping cost. (Note: case, GPU, power supply are used from old computer, and Windows 7 was free from MSDN when I was in school when it came out. It was sitting in waiting until I built a computer strong enough for it)

I remember the first day I got it too. My mom made the mistake of inviting in some Mormons knockers to explain in detail the perks of Latter Day Saints.

So while they were just a stone's throw away going on about Joseph Smith and his golden tablets, I couldn't help but feel I was indulging in sin as I cursed at and killed the fuck out of some alien assholes, whose existence has no explanation according to their religion. Damnit those little Chryssalids would turn your guys into aliens pissed me off.

And yes, to pre-empt any smartasses to the punch line, the first day that I got and played X-Com was earlier this week.

Rando how is your WinTV working?  Mine works really well but like once a month the fucker will develop a slight lag between audio and video sync on live and DVR stuff.  It will get progressively worse until I reboot the machine then all is fine.  I'm running mine on a core2 1.86ghz with 2 gig ram so maybe the machine isn't beefy enough to handle the hd cable im trying to DVR but once I restart, it goes away for 2-3 weeks.
