Seung-Hui Cho might have been a Hikikomori or someone has withdrawn from society to the point of complete isolation and reclusiveness. Although there are Hikikomoris from every culture, Japan has a specific term to describe this increasing phenomenon, which is blamed on the rigorous academic demands on Japanese children (also a reason why the "Asians are smart" stereotype exists).
