I saw something similar to that today but far more sad. I was going down the highway and saw something going very slowly across the road. I got closer and realized it was a bunny whose back legs had been crushed, and it was trying to drag itself out of the road. I consider myself a pretty desensitized person, but I'll admit it got to me a little bit.

I'm going to have to disagree and say people that slam on the breaks or swerve erratically because of animals on a busy street/highway should be shot for risking causing a wreck that could injure or kill people.

Human’s safety > the other animals, as I am a human

My ex used to slam and swerve for squirrels, without even looking at surrounding traffic, always scared the hell out of me. Dogs and Cats I make a concerned effort to avoid. I'd never really TRY to hit an animal, but I can't afford a new car, and I'm damn sure avoiding a squirrel is not legal justification for insurance or police. I'm not about to ruin my life for a squirrel.

Squirrel is actually pretty tasty, I don't aim for them, but I don't go out of my way or create needless danger to miss them.

Ya I mean, if I am just cruising through my neighborhood and a cat runs out or even a cute little bunny I will slow down, but I was only doing 25 to begin with and this is a side street.

If I am on a main drag or a highway they better be prepared to taste buick.

It actually safer to hit an animal, of any size, than to try to swerve and avoid it. Even large animals like deer. Sure, it'll mess up your car, but it's better than going off the road or into another car.
