Paul, stop being a gotard. 150-200 dead from suspected swine flu. They are now going back through each case and running a test that takes much longer to verify that it was indeed swine flu. They are only done with the first dozen or so tests. The confirmed number will eventually be pretty close to the suspected number.

Let's paint a hypothetical situation here:
Let's say you're the leader of a nation. Let's also say a virus comes along that behaves much like the flu and is just as easily spread but is more likely to kill you if not properly treated. Then let's go a little further and pretend like there's a major economic crisis going on in this completely hypothetical situation that is forcing people to postpone major surgeries and not go to the doctor for simple little things like colds and the flu. Then people start dying in a neighboring country. Then more and more people get sick and this nasty little bug spreads all over the place and spills over into your country. What would you do if you were among the leadership of that nation? Would you try to scare the shit out of people so they will go get checked out when they get a fever? Fuck yes you would. This isn't fearmongering or a political magic trick, this is an attempt to get people to go to the fucking doctor. Nobody is going to forget about the two wars we're fighting over this. Nobody is going to forget that their 401k is half of what it was 14 months ago because some Mexicans kicked el cubo.
I trust the government just as little as the next guy, so a sheep I am not. Trust me, I work for the government and I am shocked at the incompetence at all levels. Having said that, I don't act like everyone else is a paranoid idiot, I KNOW everyone else is a paranoid idiot. Furthermore, the "exaggerated" numbers of the dead Mexicans came from the Mexican government, not ours. It's the world health organization that is now going through and doing the fact-checking.
