I watched the video and, as usual, experienced the same blow-hard mangling of a point that only Glenn Beck and Fox News can deliver.

Where was the part of her speech where she said she admired Mao's personal ethics, policies, or purges that led to the deaths of millions?  It wasn't shown because it doesn't exist.  Instead, she referred to him as one of her favorite two political philosophers (the other being Mother Fucking Teresa).  That's not outrageous at all and you know it.  Politicians study and take lessons from Mao Tse-tung the same way they study Washington and Lincoln and FDR and Stalin, or the way scientists study Einstein and Edison and Newton and Darwin, or the way military commanders study Jackson and Hitler and Napoleon and Patton.  He was one of the most important political actors of the 20th century and is still hailed in China as the savior of their country.  Yes, he did some horrible shit later on in his rule, but that doesn't mean he never did anything worthy of admiration.

You've made it obvious that you consider yourself an amateur historian of sorts.  Don't you study the Roman Empire?  Don't historians, military commanders, and politicians alike learn lessons from and admire the achievements of the Roman Empire?  Wasn't the Roman Empire also directly responsible for the deaths of untold millions?

Glenn Beck isn't smart enough to discern between intellectual admiration and theological guilt by association...or perhaps he is, but he's also smart enough to know that his time slot depends on his unwavering devotion to Fox's McCarthyist tactics.

C'mon, you're better than this.  Take the blinders off and step away from the Flavor Aid.

Chairman Mao, Stalin, and Hitler all are equals. If someone said they admired Hitler or Stalin that would not be universally accepted. I don't see why this is any different.

The true greatness of our country lies in our freedom to question our leadership even in a time of war. And come on, lets be honest, President Obama is a lack luster war president at best. Our commanders in the battlefield need our prayers because they are living in the NOW, and make decisions that affect thousands of soldiers lives (and their families) in split seconds. And when they ask for help, our current administration puts together a commitee to decide what to do. The President needs to make a decision, not congeal opinion, take a poll, see how Biden feels about it. All that is bullshit. If past war presidents had acted this way, we'd be speaking German. (BTW, FDR was a great war president, and he was a democrat, so don't blast me as being anti-democrat)

I'm not saying it's reasonable to admire Mao, the ruthless communist tyrant.  But that isn't to say there aren't lessons to be learned from studying him and that his political strategy and military accomplishments weren't noteworthy.  The same is true for Hitler.  He was a horrible human being, but he is often credited as being one of the most effective leaders and commanding orators in history.  There's a lot to learn (not the genocide and unprovoked invasions parts) and one can respect his ability to inspire his countrymen, while still hating him for being pure evil.

Thrun is just kidding about questioning the president in a time of war.  He's commenting about the double-standard championed by the right wing wherein it was "unpatriotic" to speak out against the Bush administration, but now they can't get each others' dicks out of their mouths quick enough to bash Obama and his administration.  They hypocrisy is blinding and ridiculous and they carry on as if it never happened.

Regarding our troops on the ground, I would rather we send more armor than prayers.

I don't mean to be presumptuous, but our troops would probably rather have armor from the very real bullets than the vague prayers from a stranger to a "god" that doesn't exist, but who, even in the extremely off-chance that he does exist, has statistically never shown any sort of bias in times of war.

That's not crazy.  Crazy is blowing kisses instead of giving real world money and supplies.  Crazy is asking a god to intervene and "help our boys win the war".  The other side is praying the same thing to their god.  They think you're just as crazy as you think they are...and you're both right.

I will say this. I find it interesting that we managed Adghanastan just fine until last January with less than 24000 troops. Now that we are pulling out of Iraq we all of a sudden need 100000 troops in Afghanastan? Either the military is full of shit or Obama is wagging the dog. You may have got the impression from my earlier post that I thought we should send more troops. I just think the president need to make a decision. Not waffle. I actually agree with Biden of all things only I think we should do more. World wide surgical strikes. Special forces in any country thay supports terror.
